I had not planned on going to Cancun wanting to avoid touristic, partying places. Yet due to my injury I cut on my plans to visit some islands and spend a week-end in Cancun at a friend’s place, getting a chance to discover life in Cancun and maybe changing my mind about it. I have to admit that the most beautiful beach and sea shades I’ve seen was at the dolphin beach in Cancun. I’ve discovered Cancun as the Miami of Mexico, a city were locals talk to strangers in English before even thinking you could speak Spanish, a place full of malls but also restaurants and places to go out. I understand that ultimately Cancun can be the perfect place for people wanting to live an American-like life within the Latino culture.
But let not fool anyone Cancun is and wil always remain a very touristic city, with no historical charm or mexican culture, built around an american way of life.
I unfortunately do not have any recommendations on accommodation or F&B because being welcomed at a friend's place I kind of let myself go and be taken out here and there for drinks, dinner etc. hence not remembering names...
