BIG BUDDHAConstructed at the beginning of the 21st century, Big Buddha is one of the Island's most important and revered landmarks on the island. It sits on top of the Nakkered Hills between Chalong and Kata.
With a visit free of charge, this 45m tall and 25m base statue offers spiritual energy. Many tourists take time to meditate and leave thoughts and messages (good luck and in memory of passed-away loved ones) on bricks, white marble slabs and metals leaves. Big Buddha is also a place of money raising for maintenance. When showing back to the statue, it offers a view on the bay of the west coast of Phuket. You can reach the site either by car or by rental quad (6km route), or simply by walking up the hill. Once there, few steps await before the Statue. |
PatongPatong beach is one of the famous on the island, not necessarily due to its beauty but mostly known for its bars, restaurants and nightlife. The Main Street is Patong area is filled with bars, bars and nightclubs competing with I one another to attract tourist. Ladyboys everywhere and ping pong shows & co. offered every 2 meters. I personally didn't like it much, it being very crowded and messy - yet it's something to see once in your life time to realise what a business sexual tourism represents over here.
