Our unplanned stop at Coyhaique lasted about 20h00. When there's only one bus per day to go further down Patagonia and you make it there's nothing else to do to put things in perspective enjoy a place you didn't think of visiting but probably has nice views to offer. And so we did. After having a hard time to find an accommodation we went to have a walk in the national park, 30min outside of town. The entrance costs CLP3000 and the walk is enjoyable with a beautiful scenery and view over the countryside when walking up from the main road to the park entrance. A 2h00 walk can be made to and back from the Laguna Verde, the entire tour of the park takes about 4h (10km).
Transport: we took a 34h (it leaves only twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays with Naviera Austral) ferry from Quellon on Island Chiloe to Puerto Chacabuco. This ferry aside from being relatively cheap (25€ per person) enables you to get further down Patagonia without bothering with buses, and to enjoy a beautiful view from the fjords and islands. It also enabled us to meet great people with whom we have travelled a few more destinations together! A memorable time! On board snacks are available but not that good so I would advise you to bring your own.
Once at Puerto Chacabuco, a bus leaves from Puerto Chacabuco every now and then to Aysen (14km, CLP800-1000). Then we took a bus from Aysen to Coyhaique (1h, CLP2200). Hitchhiking is easily also doable.
Accommodation: elmusier B&B, a couple of blocks from the main place (calls 21 de Mayo); we negotiated CLP10'000 per person per night including breakfast. It was the perfect accommodation for a group of 6 people. We rented all the rooms and felt at home where we enjoyed a nice fire at the end of the day! Comfortable beds, great wifi, and running hot water; but poorly furnished kitchen.
Activities: CLP3'000 for the national park's entrance
F&B: CLP4700 for a quick lunch in a restaurant and shared dinner at the hostel
