Bella Tayrona! As soon as we leave Rioacha I’m shifting from a deserted landscape towards a tropical one: the National Park of Tayrona laying on the Caribbean Coast an hour drive from Santa Marta. Tayrona National Park is a natural beauty, presenting a biodiversity endemic to the area of the closest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The park, covering over 30 km2 or maritime area and 140 km2 of land, holds a variety of wildlife that one can enjoy especially when trekking on land and keep and attentive eye out for monkeys for instance, and many maritime activities to undergo.
Sleeping a night outside of the park’s main entrance, we start out hike towards the beach early in the morning a couple hours hike up to the famous “head quarter beach” Cabo San Juan, which was obviously fully-booked. So after the storm we head back another camp site: Arrecifes. We spent a little bit over a couple of days enjoying some time by the beaches between Arrecifes, La Piscina and Cabo San Juan, enjoying some delicious fresh fish and warm sea. The only negative points: the mosquitos’ attacks – out of which I have a big scar on my leg as an everlasting memory.
In short Tayrona is the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature beauty (but also a bit of party with other travelers), with beautiful see sight over the ocean and its 50 gradient shades of blue.
