It’s 4pm and my plane lands in La Havana. Here we are: the last country of my 5 month travel awaits me. I’m having a hard time to believe it but I quickly find myself surrounded by the truth and beauty of this town and realises I’m lucky to finally make it Cuba! I join my hostel and reunite with my 2 Australian friends I met in Tulum: our journey in La Havana can finally start!
We spent about 4 days in this exciting town. We spent a lot of time wandering around town, and mostly the old city: first with a great free tour and then for our own pleasure. Casablanca y los castillos, El malecon, Plaza principal, deprived (neo)-colonial buildings, colourful building, inhabitants’ life in the streets, old cars and things you’d never see anywhere else such as chicken attached to window bars. But also hunting for good cheap food and the best mojitos around town!
I adored the offset style of la Havana’s streets but also the kindness of the Cubans, nicely chatting up with you around town, exchanging life thoughts, political issues and tourism effect in their country. Sunsets at the Malecon are exceptional and I wouldn’t hesitate about coming back to this city.

Transportation: an 85$ dollar flight directly from Cancun (about 1h flight)
Accommodation: in one of the only hostels in town, Mendoza Hostel, for 10 CUC per night. Conveniently located close to the old city, but still on the outskirt to not be too expensive. With a terrace, kitchen and lovely tenants I recommend this hostel.
F&B: ... close to the hostel
Activities: free havana tour, crossing the bay over to Casablance to enjoy the view over the city and visit the castle, a quick ride to closeby beaches, museums, casa de la musica, casa de la trova and so much more.
