Villa Tunari, the touristic capital of the department of Cochabamba has a lot to offer. Nested in between national parks one can enjoy not only the local life within a jungly atmosphere but many expeditions, treks, waterfalls, natural pools and extreme sports such as rafting, canopying, abseiling and zip lining. Many different activities to enjoy solo or with friends, in addition to relaxing on a hammock or by a swimming pool.
A variety of animals can be seen and Villa Tunari is a well-known place in Bolivia for volunteers to stop by and help care for animals. One of the famous attractions is Parque Machia where one can enjoy walking around the jungle surrounded by playing monkeys all around. Just beware your belongings, these monkeys can be vicious! Another place is La Hormiga, an animal sanctuary where we can discover a variety of animals after they have been treated. Villa Tunari is a great destination for a week-end getaway from Cochabamba (only 4 hours drive), should it be with friends of as a couple, to relax or party! |

Transportation: 4 hour drive from Cochabamba with truffis. 75Bs in total way back.
Accommodation: Hostal San Antonio on the Plaza Principal, very basic hostel with a swimming pool. Too expensive for what it was (50bs per night). I’d rather recommend Hostal El Mirador which is a bit cheaper but also offers a view on the river, hammocks, an open kitchen, a swimming pool, poll tables and more activities for only 45Bs per night for a dormitory.
Activites: The positive point is that for many of the activities neither tours nor guide is needed, or it’s included in the parks’ entrances fees, which start at 35Bs and up. If you’re willing to visit Parque Carrasco I’d highly recommend going with a group, as a couple we paid 90Bs each for 1h30 of visit which was very expensive for the value of the tour.
F&B: Not too expensive. Basic meals start at 14Bs and can go up to 70Bs for a good fish in a nice restaurant.
