We had the pleasure of admiring the wonderful Carretera Austral from Coyhaique to Puerto Guadal. You cannot cross one tourist who will tell you that it is not worth it. When travelling to and through Patagonia it is unavoidable.
It look liked everything I didn’t expect. I expected a flat land, more in the yellow with some mountains in the background and some wild animals all around. This is more the Argentina road to Patagonia. In the Carretera Austral, the landscape is a mixture of green, yellow, brown and red. A mixture of countryside and wild mountains. It is full of vegetation, trees, cliffs and water sources – all of that out of nowhere. The rocks go from a range of orange to pink to brown depending on the sun. We even saw Christmas trees! And at some point the landscape turn into something we mostly saw before in the jungle: mountains and hills full of dark green vegetation in a humid weather, most of the time within clouds and mist. In terms of animals we were surprised to see cows! We expected more Lama type animals, foxes, or any other type of wild animals that one would cross the globe to see because you don’t see it back home!
All in all this magnificent part of Patagonia offers a variety of mountains, cows, rivers, lagoon, jungle like mountains, a variety of trees and snowed summit.
I’ll let you see for yourself what it looks like in the pictures below (sorry for the bad quality, the buses don’t tend to stop for us to take great pictures…) until you finally make it there…!
