After many failed attempts to visit Morroco, my dad's 60th birthday was a great occasion to spend a weekend in Marrakech all together.
Marrakech was up to my expectations: an active city, touristic of course, full of culture and activites to undergo. Where the locals enjoy intereacting with you, without being too pushy, but always with a good laugh as if Charlie Chaplin's vision of "A day without laughter is a wasted day" was their life motto. But also a place where the architecture and decorations are a treat to the eye and religion and cultural pride is part and parcel of every local's daily life.
Within three days we enjoyed wandering around town and especially the medina, whose streets are always full of activity, street vendors, food stalls, traffic, and playing children. We visited numerous monuments but mostly ate all week-end long. If there's one thing Morroco can't lie about is its delicious cuisine!
On the D-day we treated ourselves with a little tour of the desert, on the outskirt of the city, about 40 min drive. We lunched at a resort's delicious restaurant, in an unforgettable setting where we then enjoyed a little stroll around on Camels at sunset. Touristic enough...?
3 days was long enough for disconnect from reality for a weekend, yet I can't wait to come back and visit the rest of the country and its interesting culture!
