Despite making it on time at the bus station for a Phuket - Surat Thani bus, I missed the bus because the schedule was different than online... -_-. The counter lady who didn't give a crap about anything else than selling tickets for her company (she was literally bent outside of her counter to scream and attract people) offered me an alternative to my direct bus, saying I could get a connecting bus somewhere on the way. She of course didn't mention that by the time I would get there AND nobody on the bus really knew where I was supposed to catch the connecting the bus. Therefore I got dropped off at the police station outside of Surat Thani town with the hope they would be able to help me. After refusing to pay the price for the taxi (B300 baht for a 20mim drive whereas I paid the same price for a 4h30 bus ride from Phuket), one policemen nicely offered to drop me at the pier on his way home. Relieved I would make it to night boat, I had the chance to be offered a nice dinner with them at the station.
Moral of the story: you can share so much with one another despite language barrier! Thai people are generous and very nice, making you feel safe in their country.
